Hello, Eirlys!
Does the lady cleaner find that the WD40 helps her knees?
I find it fascinating that folk do these things!
I agree regarding Yellow Pages.
We have a similar system to checkatrade up here.
It is called Trusted Traders, run by the council.
It's my first port of call when needing something done, although I do have a wee list of tradesmen I have personal experience of, anyway.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
WD40 was my very first thought!
( I kept my elderly tumbler dryer going for 43 years with the odd flash of WD40!)
but to no avail in the case of the lock!
Husband has been trying his expertise but finally we have given in and called a locksmith!
Consultations with neighbours (best option) brought up a couple of recommendations!
A locksmith is coming at 9.30 tomorrow.
I have heard vaguely of the Battle of Fromelles... I hope your book will be interesting.
As we cannot both leave the house at the same time, I am about to walk to the park with the dog - this is perfectly do-able, but puts a couple of extra miles on the outing!
I hope all goes well at the doctors with the BP check.

Chris, I'm fine now , thank you! if I catch my migraine at the 'aura' stage , the tablets work well.
I hope your door lock doesn't deteriorate as quickly as did ours.
Altho some suspicious scratches noticed around the lock are now leading us to think that someone attempted to break in overnight.

Eirlys, thank you...I have noted the tradesmen reference for future use.

Hello, Elle!
Be an idea to point out the scratches to your locksmith.
He could likely tell what caused them, as he will have came across all sorts during his career.
Let us hope you are wrong regarding an attempted break-in.

Hi rusty
The lady cleaner's late husband had severe kidney damage caused by a medication he had taken for arthritis (for a long time without monitoring ) so she refuses to have the same medication. She believes the WD40 (which is mostly fish oil) does help . Even though the product contains no real treatment, it can have a physical effect if the person believes it is doing some good. Just by applying the spray could trigger a release of endorphins (the brain's own natural painkiller) I would not recommend it though !

Hello, Eirlys!
I agree. If you believe it is helpful, that is half the battle won.
WD40 is a great product, but not, I think, for wonky knees!

Hi, Rusty!
How did you get on seeing your GP?
What did he have to say about your blood pressure levels?
Well, I don't think I shall make a habit of walking to and from this particular park.....an additional two miles on the walk is perhaps pushing it a bit!......there are other (though less favourable) parks much nearer home!
But maybe I'll do it again just for tomorrow morning!
A busy time tomorrow........locksmith at 9.30am, then a two hour time slot between 12 and 2 pm for the BG engineer to come to service the c/h boiler.
But with luck, the second walk may be chauffeur driven, if the lock is fixed!

Hello, Elle!
I am just home from seeing the GEEP.
He is very satisfied at BP levels.
Me too!
You seem to be well off for parks!
I am sure your locksmith will sort you out fairly quickly.
My gas engineer only takes around 20 minutes to service the boiler and do his checks, so I would think yours would be the same.
Fine day here, seems to be same at Eastbourne!

Hi, Rusty!
That is great news about your BP!
(The practice nurse was worried before, wasn't she?)
I learned something new through the Times QC today.
The clue was.......
Pub's opening in good time for London trader (6)
The answer was obviously "Pearly" but I couldn't see why.
I had always known the "Pearly Kings and Queens " to be responsible for raising money for London charities.
Consulting Brewers ( as one does in times of trouble!) I found that they were formed originally to protect safety and trading interests .
So.......... parsing solved, and an item of interest learned!
Good old Brewers!
I haven't yet had time to look in on the tennis - I've been walking hither and thither......
Sunny here also.

Hello, Elle!
Yes, nurse just a tad concerned about it.
All fine now, though.
I did not know that about Pearly Kings.
I would not have got the answer, though.
Is Pearly a noun, too?
Brewers is excellent!
Miss Konta is playing just now.

Hi, Rusty!
You have put your finger unerringly on the weak spot.......is "pearly" a noun?
I cannot find it in any dictionary nor does it mention it as such in Brewers.
The reference is always to a Pearly King or Pearly Queen.
I'm presuming that "pearly" was originally used as an adjective, but the term "Pearly King" became know as a Proper noun.
Hence the more familiar "Pearly" as a noun?
What do you think?
I haven't had chance to watch any tennis - how did Johanna do today?
Dinner has just arrived - a treat from the fish and chip shop!
