Malone, I agree with you regarding the "shrewish" clue.
A bit odd.
And 7 down is simply dreadful!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah yes, I remember your saying that Vroum Vroum Mag was going to run at Punchestown.
Are you placing any bets on any particular horse?
So what does the nurse want you to chat to the GP about ? Are you already taking any medication for your blood pressure? or is this what she wants you to discuss?
My husband takes a lot of meds for his BP, and I find it a very worrying aspect......probably because I personally have a resistance to taking any medicines.
I'm fortunate that I don't actually have to do so , because I'm not sure what I would decide to do, if I did!
The only tablets I am prepared to take are my migraine meds....and I only need these sporadically, so I'm not committing myself to a permanent ingestion of medication.
Mind you, I'm not saying here that anyone shouldn't take his/ her recommended medication.........just that I probably wouldn't!
Ok, getting down from my hobby horse now.......

Two more clues for you .......from today's Times QC

Hello, Elle!
Jess has now made a full statement.
And with the statement from Nicole Cook, I would say that British Cycling warrants an investigation into their treatment of women, especially if they are getting Lottery money.
Cavendish is currently riding the Tour of Croatia yet hopes to be part of the track team for Rio?
None of the women would be allowed to do that.
He should be training with the track team.
Vroum Vroum Mag has been withdrawn today.
Maudlin?
What college is that?
There is a Strand, in London, I think.
A beach is called a strand, in Donegal.
My BP is out of control and my nurse is concerned.
High for a bit, then drops to normal for a bit, and she is at a loss to know why.
So, I'll have a natter with the Doc to see what the craic is.
Nina Carberry has just won the first race at Punchestown!

Hi rusty
Magdalene College in Cambridge is always pronounced "Maudlin".

Ah, Yes, Chris,
I see that in Chambers. "Modlin"
Means a "repentant prostitute!"
We have a Magdalen Green in town, but it is pronounced as it is spelt.

Rusty, glad my 'some might say...' thought wasn't totally ludicrous! I thought the Aubade/how one addressed Shakespeare... clue was dreadful, an example of a setter trying too hard.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, it certainly sounds as though a can of worms has been opened with regard to treatment of women in British Cycling!
Won't their previous attitude to Victoria count against them as well?
VVM was withdrawn before....won't this be another black mark against the trainer?
Will he have to pay another fine?
But very well done, Nina!
I have spent over an hour talking to my daughter on the phone!
She rang me whilst the baby was asleep and before going to collect BB from nursery - so we were able to have a long uninterrupted chat! Very nice! and quite a novelty!
We are making plans for outings on the days when BB is not at pre-school.
Next Friday we shall go to Greenwich.

Hello, Elle!
UK Sport, who fund British Cycling, have told them to get this investigated, pronto!
If anything, Nicole Cooke was treated worse than Vic, and that is an Olympic and World Champion, and two-time Tour de France winner, we are talking about.
Quote from Nicole, "Hypocrisy and double standards in respect to gender are ingrained in cycling."
When she won Olympic gold in Beijing, there were also four British men competing in the road race. Not one of them finished, never mind got near the medals!
Sutton told Jess Varnish her data was not available to give her when she wanted to see it (I do not believe that!).
He would not let her take her bike away with her.
Said it belonged to British Cycling.
How petty is that!
A bike that is made to measure for Jess, and no one else!
I hope Sutton gets punted!
What is on at Greenwich?

Hi, Rusty!
So no doubt, if justice is to be done, we shall be hearing a lot more about the cycling traumas.......and maybe something will be done to rectify the injustices?
Now.......Greenwich?
There is a big park there of about 200 acres, and within its grounds and along its peripheries, lie may interesting old buildings.
For instance, there are the Old Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory.
This last is where the designation "Greenwich Mean Time" began.
There is also the more recent O2 arena, built to commemorate the Millenium.
The 2012 Olympic equestrian events were held in Greenwich Park.
From the top of the hill, you can see many landmarks, including the "Pencil point" at Canary Wharf.
BB will have a great time!
I have just realised though that it will have to be Friday week when we go.
I have my "daughter-in-law-who-isn't" and my granddaughter coming over straight after school this coming Friday.
We are looking forward to seeing them both!

Hello, Elle!
What is the Royal Observatory?
And "Pencil point"?
I have a "daughter-in-law-who-isn't".
She is a smashing girl from Lincolnshire (that is tricky to pronounce) and her and me get on great, with much hilarity!
As regards the cycling, Sky are just as bad.
They have poured millions into a men's team and turn a deaf ear to requests to have a women's pro team.
Why "Canary" Wharf?
