I can't understand why that didn't work. It did when I emailed it to myself!

Hey, Rusty!
Maybe buy fewer fish next time?
I do love smoked and peppered mackerel though!
A pity you couldn't send me some!
I have finished my book!
I am going to have a look on Amazon and see if I can find any more books by Nicholas Evans that I have not yet read.
I have a feeling, too, that there should be a new book in the "Clifton Chronicles" series by Jeffrey Archer out now - or soon?
Another author whom I like is Sebastian Faulks.
I have vouchers for my birthday, so can browse without feeling guilty at the prospect of spending money!
Was it today that you were going to watch the cycling? How did it - or is it - going?

Hello, Elle,
ASDA sells me mackerel in a pack.
Around four or five fishes in it.
That's good about your vouchers.
The cycling was won by Enrico Gasparotto.
Was quite good.
Though, one rider managed to fracture his skull before the race even started. He crashed in the neutral zone.
Next week is a much more important race.
Liege-Bastogne-Leige.
I am looking forward to that!
Now, Elle, you mentioned your birthday and that caused me to think.
Why do we say, Many Happy "Returns"?
Returns of what?

Hi, Rusty!
I really couldn't watch cycling .....I've said it many times, it is such a dangerous sport......how can folk continually put their lives at risk?
A fractured skull......and the race not even properly started?
It isn't that I am squeamish - in my profession, I am obviously not bothered by a bit of "blood and gore" - but to willingly /knowingly do something that could so endanger one's self seems to me to be risking so much for so little? ( a bit of temporary glory/ satisfaction in a win, against risking one's health/ life?
Has the sport always been this dangerous? or has the racing kind of ultra- developed so that it is now a far more risky procedure?

I have always thought that by saying "Many Happy Returns of the Day", you are wishing the recipient a lot more birthdays to come? that is, a long life expectancy?
I did look it up in Brewers to confirm, but couldn't find it?

I have just caught up on "Casualty"!

Helloi, Elle!
No, you are best away from cycling.
I am very interested as it is the sport I competed in as a young man.
It is very dangerous, yes.
There are always crashes.
No sign of a third egg yet!

Hi, Rusty!
I have just finished my weekly hour's chat with my cousin - all is well with her and the family.
I didn't realise that you competed in cycle racing when you were younger.
But hopefully it wasn't then on such a dangerous scale?
That is what I was asking before.......has the sport escalated so much that it has since become more dangerous in later years?
Do you still cycle? though perhaps rather as a leisure activity?
I have looked in on Lassie several times, but she seems quite calm... although the weather looks rather blustery?

Hello, Elle!
I rode my first race when I was 15.
Retired when I was 23.
Cyclists do not regard it is dangerous.
Last Sunday for instance, Cancellara crashed three times on the road to Roubaix.
Crashes are part of our sport. It's normal.
I do not think I was ever in a race without a crash.
It is less dangerous now. Tyres etc are better.
Crash helmets are mandatory.
I do not cycle now.
But it is my sport and I follow it.
Thanks to Eurosport!
Yes, it seems quite breezy at the loch.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I suppose it figures that we watch the sport in which we ourselves participated.
I watch tennis, and I used to play on a daily basis.
(Mind you, I also watch Athletics and I was always hopeless at anything like that!)
I played table tennis, too.
I have been browsing Amazon for books by Nicholas Evans and have found two that I have not read.
Also two books by Sebastian Faulks that are new to me
All cost 1p plus p&p - how good is that?
