Hello, Elle!
I think the US commentators may have just made that up.
They said it was the "I love you" sign, so I Googled that and looked at "Images", and the sign is done using the fingers of one hand, trying to show the letters "I L Y", i think.
I would, though, like to know why Lydia did it.
Maybe she is a fan of Mo?
One of life's mysteries!
What do not you like about the clue?
It is brief and accurate and fair, I think.
Would you like some of our rain?
It is relentless!

Hi again,

Sorry Rusty, but I'd rather you kept your rain, thank you very much!

Now for the 'I love you' sign - I have seen it many times made by putting the two forefingers and the two thumbs together in order to make the shape of a heart;

PS - or perhaps it just means 'Love'

Hi, Rusty!
Now, more about the "Mobot".........apparently Clare said to Mo ""I think you should do the 'M' from YMCA, the M for Mo."
And Usain Bolt and Mo are buddies from way back and Usain did the gesture because they are best friends!
Or so I have read!
I guess maybe Lydia did it as a Victory symbol? ...... sounds plausible?
If could explain to you exactly what I don't like about that clue, then maybe I would be able to understand it - but neither Chrisg nor Mamya seemed happy with it .... and Mamya's official reference site blogger didn't sound convinced either!
I shall put it behind me as one of my (many) failures to comprehend!
No thank you, I do not want some of your rain! You may keep it!
(We did have have five minutes of drizzle earlier - but the sun is out again now!)

Hello, Pigale!
OK, I'll hang on to the rain!
Lydia is a New Zealander and one NZ newspaper described her jump as having a "delayed knee-tuck and heart-spread arms"!
Her one thought as she jumped was "I hope I don't break anything!"
Google shows the "I love you" sign as being done with one hand,
so who knows what she meant!
Now for a coffee and a crack at my crossword!

Hello, Elle!
My final word on "the jump".
I will go on Golf Channel later and see if there is an interview or anything with her about the jump.
I hope these very expensive watches they all wear are waterproof!
I can not see a problem with the clue
Very succinct, I thought.
Now off to see if I have anything for tea and then my crossword!.

Hi, Rusty!
I have just been reading about "blood rain" being about to fall on Britain towards the end of this week, as temperatures soar, and red Saharan dust blows in from Africa.
It will stain cars and pavements a rusty brown (and what about our lungs , I wonder?)
Blood rain - you may already know this? although I didn't - is the term used when rain mixes with sand from deserts.
Storms in the Sahara whip up sand into a fine dust which is carried for more than 2,000 miles to Britain.
Apparently, in ancient times "blood rain" was believed to be actual blood and considered a bad omen , heralding death and destruction.
I read that it is mentioned in both Homer's Iliad and in the Tales of King Arthur.

Hello, Elle!
Blood rain?
Rings a wee bell.
I have not tried the Iliad or Tales of King Arthur.
There was something like that during the Dustbowl in USA.
Lots of damaged lungs due to soil in the air.
Do you not have any cheerier news to share?
The webcam seems to be working fine again.
Times crossword was pretty straightforward today.
