Hello, Elle!
The language is full of words from other languages and cultures.
I think the armed forces brought a lot of words home with them during the days of the Empire. Like bungalow and jodhpurs.
I think "curry" comes from the Tamil word "kari".
"Char" or "cha" for tea comes from Cantonese.
There will be hundreds of words in common use like that.
I think France has adopted "le weekend" from the English language.
Did you know that a "kylie" is a boomerang?
Boomerang is in our language now and it is an Australian word.
Etc, etc!
Lydia is leading the golf. Lexi is two shots behind her,
I am recording it.

Good morning, Elle!
Rainy here! Not very nice.
Anyway, Lydia has won the golf tournament.
I have not seen it yet as it finished after midnight.
Will watch the recording.
England's Charley Hull was second (great result for the youngster) and Lexi was fifth.
Lydia became the Lady of the Lake when she jumped into Poppie's Pond with her caddy, Mum, sister, and caddy's girlfriend. She is only 18.

Good morning, Rusty!
After the tremendous thunderstorm last night, we once more have a lovely day!
It was good to be out doing the early morning walk again (7.45am) - I missed that whilst the boys were here!
Sadly, whilst I have been away for the week, three people have lost their dogs.
Two dogs due to progressive illness, and the third from a sudden stroke.
I knew about one as the owner rang to tell me, but the others were a shock.
You will be pleased that Lydia won the golf tournament!
I looked it up on Google after reading your message and saw her and some of her entourage jumping into Poppie's Pond!
Quite a tradition!
Nothing planned as yet for today - dare I believe I might get to take it easy....?
How about you? Have you taken the "scenic route" to get your paper?

Good Morning Everyone,

Hello Elle and Rusty,

A rather nice day here, and warm ! I have just returned from the village and I was too hot dressed as I was, particularly when climbing the hill on my way back.
Hope it's not going to bring another thunderstorm like last night!

I see that the camera is finally working again - it looks quite rainy up there; the nest was empty when I looked, perhaps the birds have gone to take shelter in some trees?

Rusty, you are correct about 'le weekend' being adopted by the French; It must be a long time ago, I personally have always known the term; perhaps it dates back to when a lot of workers stopped having to work on Saturdays? It certainly is much easier to say 'weekend' that 'end of the week' , which is what we would have to say otherwise, and even this is not too precise, it does not mean just the Saturday and Sunday, but could also concern the Friday - we have no alternative really.

Hello, Elle!
Heavy rain here!
Quite funny about Poppie's Pond!
All the ladies competing will be hoping it is them taking the leap!
Well done, Amy Alcott, for starting it all off back in the eighties!
Bringing good fun into sport has to be applauded!
I drove to ASDA (rain was a bit heavy!) and met my daugher-in-law by happenstance.
No plans today, just hoping the rain will stop!

Hello, Pigale!
Your weather is much better than mine today.
Heavy rain here.
I have not looked in on the nest yet.
Just home from shop.
I think it is good that various languages adopt bits of other languages. Makes the world go round.
Later, I am going to investigate a phrase that has got into my head. "Pay lip service to"?
What on earth is "lip service"!

Hi, Rusty!
How is your rain doing?
(The sun is still shining here!)
Have you had chance to watch the remainder of the golf?
Don't you find that it rather spoils it for you, when you already know the outcome?
I read what you said about "paying lip service"......
I know what this means........giving insincere approval or praise that you don't really mean....... but have no idea of the origin of the phrase?
What does your book of Idioms say?
I've got a clue from the Times QC, the answer to which I cannot make sense of - I shall put it up on the forum.....
Have you done your crossword yet?

Hello, Pigale!
When I looked in on the osprey webcam earlier, the camera w sn't working and an apology was posted up...but just now I saw Lassie still standing there in solitary glory, looking around....... she must be so bored!

Hi again Elle,

Re the ospreys, I am not sure it is a camera problem, or rather an intermittent signal (that's what I meant with the 'wheel' turning - it's the sort of wheel you get when you can't connect because of poor signal); the connection does not seem regular.

Re Lip service

Brewers shows : insincere respect, expressed with the lips but not acted upon :
Biblical quote from Matthew 15.8 "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips but their heart is far from me"

Hello, Elle!
My rain is hammering down!
I think I am home for the day.
No, I do not mind knowing the result before I watch.
It does not happen often.
Just that this event took place in California.
Quite a time difference!
Not investigated lip service yet.
Mind, my head has lots of similar oddities rattling around in it.
It is a bit early for me to tackle crossword.
Usually a tea time treat!
