Good evening, Elle!
You can only do your very bestest!
I hope things work out for the practice and patients.
Weather here is grim.
Rain and more rain.
Tina Turner is 80 today.
That surprised me!

Hi, Rusty!
There are times when doing one's best seems totally inadequate!
But we shall see.
Finger crossed for a good outcome!
On a lighter note....we have Thursday to look forward to, when our son and our granddaughter are coming to visit us!
That will be nice....
It makes a rare change for us to see them both together, as more usually we see our granddaughter with her mum and younger brother.
So this visit will be a treat!
I didn't know that Tina Turner is 80, either!

Hello, Elle!
Think positively and do your bestest for the practice and patients.
It will be nice to see your family, I'm sure.
It is still raining here!
One or two flooded roads around here!

A Very good morning to you, Rusty!
It is a beautiful sunny day here at the moment , but we are forecast rain from midday onwards.
It is mild though.
I hope your flooded roads are cleared now?
I am planning a lazy, relaxing, stress free day ...!
Perhaps I should disconnect the telephone and not read any of my emails...........?
I might even have the time to sit down and finish the crossword!
How about you?
What are you up to today?

Good afternoon, Elle!
Our rain has ceased and now we have fog!
I am home for the day, I think.
I thought the puzzle was tricky today.
New words to me are, 18a, 3d, 8d.
I liked 28a, and 25d!

Hi, Rusty!
And we now have the threatened rain!
I am definitely not going out again today.
Well, my morning wasn't exactly peaceful - I did have quite a lot of phone call and emails regarding the GP practice.
But things do seem to be moving a bit now, and possibly there will be enough response from "those in authority" to hold up proceedings, at least.
We can but hope!
I have done what I can of the crossword......it is the "down" clues that are proving to be my undoing!
I have one 'across' clue, and four 'down' that I cannot yet do.
But I shall persevere (off and on) for a while before asking you for help!
A difficult puzzle though!

Good evening, Elle!
Still fair here!
How are you getting on regarding the GP practice action group?
I agree it was a difficult puzzle today.
I prefer that, mind you!

Good evening, Rusty!
I have been both on the telephone, and receiving and answering emails, all afternoon, regarding the potential closure of the GP surgery.
So much for my day of R & R!
It seems to be one step forward and two back.....
I have been invited to yet another meeting - this time at the surgery itself - tomorrow morning.
I will report back in due course.
Now.....I have only recently returned to my crossword puzzle - the day having got rather hectic!
But the time out has caused some light to dawn for me.
I have now solved a few more clues!
I have got "lima" for 25d - the clue that you had mentioned, based on the NATO alphabet!
I am still stuck on 18a: These usen't to get worked up about harmful emission? (7)
(Is the e such a word as "usen't"?)
E???U?S
2d: Thursday broadcast's before 9 (7)
S?R?W?H
and 19d: Wrong start, therefore ignoring that (7)
??F?N?E
I think I will require explanations as well, please!

Hello, Elle!
It is maybe hard work but you are giving it your best shot and that's good!
Took me a wee while to get "Lima"!
18a is "econuts", "usen't" around "CO".
"Usen't" is used in my circles, but I do not know if it is a real word or dialect.
2d, I think I had "Lor" for 9.
Broadcast is "strew" with "Th" for Thursday.
"Strewth" is an exclamation (that I have never heard used!)
This is my stab at 19.
"Offence" is wrong.
Start is "off" as in horse racing.
Therefore can be "thence"
And it looks like "th" is an abbreviation for "that", is it?
So remove "th" from thence, leaving "ence".
Offence.

Update, Elle!
Offence.
Start/"off" as in horse racing terms.
I think "hence" is better than thence.
Remove the start of "(h)ence" and stick it on "off".
Is that any better?
