Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I am sure my daughter will be fine...she has done a lot of Charity runs over the last few years, and also goes to the Park Runs on Saturday mornings, in training for her half marathon, which will be the longest distance she has attempted.
Well done , your friend in Norn Iron for doing the "Couch to 5K"!
I easily walk more than that twice a day, but perhaps "walking" does not count?
I have finished my Everyman puzzle --- quite a good one today , altho I cannot agree with a homophone!
Are you watching- or recording - the DL?
I am interested to find out about this "High school" race!

Hello, Malone!
I have Sky TV, and on it there is the "Smithsonian Channel".
Some very good documentaries on it.
There was one called "Aerial Britain:Scotland", which was very good.
It is a series.
I learned quite a bit about Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, etc that I did not know.
Worth a look if you have access to the channel.

Hello, Elle!
You and your walking are an example to us all!
My friend in Norn Iron could be doing with a few 5k runs.
Her hobby is eating!
I often disagree with homophones, I'm afraid.
But that's the nature of crosswords, and the setters do their very best, I'm sure.
I am recording the Diamond League, but I would not think they'd cover the high school races.

Hello Elle and Rusty!

Sorry for delay in replying Elle, have only seen your latest message to
me!
I think the hardest during this heatwave is that its length - after nearly
10 days of very high temps, indoors is now hot, despite all my
efforts of playing with shutters/windows throughout night and
wee hours of morning!
'ONLY' (!!!!) 37° at present, which is "cooler" than the 47° of yesterday mid--afternoon!

My friend already had the big shock since he is spending a few days
with friends in Strasbourg! I think that he had to cope with a difference of nearly 20° between Cumbria and Strasbourg on the
day he first traveled! When he reaches my village tomorrow, the
temps will almost be normal for this time of the year, just a few
degrees above the norm, so that won't be too bad!

Hope your weather is back to normal today?

Re yesterday's Xword and 11d clue - I clicked almost immediately
that the 'mount' had to do with a horse, but had to type 'famous
English race horses' to find him! I knew it had to be 'dressing' something but knows nothing about British racing, and have lost
touch with French one as well! but I did like the clue!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Yes, I love walking!
And I can "walk off" my frustrations and would-be temper tantrums, too!
Very beneficial!!
It is still very warm here, but we do have quite a nice breeze...much more bearable than yesterday.
I may go and read in the garden later......
I don't "do" sun, but we have a lot of shady trees!
And I still have the fans going full blast indoors!

Hello, Pigale!
Yes, it is a tad cooler here today...warm and sunny still, but we do have the benefit of a freshening breeze.
It was very pleasant out early this morning ......but I think it will too hot for the dog to venture forth again, now that everywhere has "hotted up".
It will be the garden if anywhere!
Jeremy will hopefully be a bit acclimatised then, by the time he reaches you!

Rusty, I've just spotted your earlier post about the 'Smithsonian Channel'. I've investigated and I have that, it's available through Freeview. Now all I need to do is to remember to look at it, and look at the listings, every now and then! Thanks for the info.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, I had a nice "sit" in the garden!
It was pleasant in the shade, with just a gentle breeze wafting over me!
I am getting a tad bored with my Bill Bryson book "At Home" though...it is very informative...but somewhat lacking his usual humour?
I've just been looking at the Wimbledon Draw......regarding the top three Men's Seeds, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal are drawn in the same half, and should be set to meet up in the Semi Final were all to go to plan....... And technically the winner would then play Novak Djokovic in the Final!
But this is Wimbledon......and anything could happen en route!
From the matches scheduled for tomorrow, it seems that Heather Watson got through as a qualifier, because she is down to play tomorrow.......
As also is one of your favourites, Madison Keys.

Hello, Elle!
It is a nice day here with a strong breeze a-blowing.
Put Bill away and read something else?
Now, you have mentioned Madison Keys, and I read the other day, that several of the women players, have Madison as their "best friend".
I knew her and Sloane Stephens were as thick as thieves, but did not realise others valued her friendship, too.
Yes, Madison is a favourite of mine. Hope she does well!
I see Serena is offering to partner Andy Murray in the mixed doubles (and Billie Jean has offered, too!).
I hope he picks one of the younger up and coming girls that are fairly unknown to us.

Hi, Rusty!
I see Andy is suggesting shorter sets in the Doubles at Wimbledon.....presumably meaning the format now played in all the other big matches, where only three sets are played, and if necessary in the third, a Championship tie- break is played?
(Also , the "Advantage " point is omitted)
I am unsure of the details...I read it somewhere and now cannot find it again......
I think Andy's reasoning is that "serious" Singles players do not want also to play Doubles, as that takes up too much energy and court time, and would be detrimental to their progress in the Single matches.
Andy is saying that shorter Doubles matches might encourage more Singles players to take part?
I guess it makes sense......but Wimbledon is steeped in tradition......
Would it be likely to happen?
