@ Rambler
Posting examples from the Web only proves that many have very little understanding of grammar and punctuation.
Facebook !? Really? How about some discussion boards?

As Chrise said, “You will be showing me an example of a greengrocer's soon!”

Another ignoramus!

Each publication has a'house style' and you have shown that adopted by the Guardian.

Yesterday's Telegraph has an an article about Naples in the Travel section and it says:

Naples' walls are covered in declarations of love.

Stick to what you understand, syzygy, before you sound off.

I was always taught that when a word ended in 's' , the possessive apostrophe was added in the way that Rambler has just cited - Naples' Walls
Eg. James' book
St. James' Road

The quote is actually:

Naples' peeling sepia walls will tell you a lot about the city.

Must get these things right!

I was taught the same as Elle.

However, apostrophes are being taken out of road signs in many areas now for practical purposes.

If you look at this item you will see what happens when no house style is enforced - both forms of the possessive are used in the same article.

"The Writer Working Hard"

This morning I put the apostrophe in
and this afternoon I took it out.
Oscar Wilde's comic wit
about the writer working hard.

Robert Ronnow. Circa 2015.

as I'm a dyed-in-the-wool coward, I'd have written "the walls of Naples"! It's more elegant, anyway.

but you wouldn't have written the road of St. James, would you?!
