Filled the grid in record time though not got 21 or 27. I hope these will appear once the quotation has materialised. Have searched for things I notice lost from the grid but without joy. I wonder if the day is relevant? A nudge would be appreciated.

In 27, the definition is 'setter' and the wordplay is an anagram of 'nice' and 'pt' (= point). I'm also missing 21 and I don't have 30.

With the lost parts, I can make 'assume', 'expect', 'confidence', 'year', and 'lima', but I have little confidence that all of these are right.

Yes I have grid filled and part of the missing bits make a phrase "assume a confidence I'm except...." I can't make out 21ac or 30d but have hopes of doing so in time. Would be nice if they'd told us how long the string of letters to be arranged is.

21a is a potato
30d is a 5 letter word that starts with a and means in company (use the abbreviation for Algeria in wordplay)

Some of the missing letters go together

Year + n for example

They do not form a quote. Think synonyms

Thanks djahufc: I was thinking Murphy = potato, but it's only six letters (and 'a potato' is two words), and I'm still puzzling over the wordplay. Presumably river = 'po'.
