I'm finding this tough. Can anyone give me a vague hint (please not too overt and definitely not the answer) for 4ac? I think it must be an anagram but I just can't work it out.

Planks. You are correct in your assumption but you need to take into account the reference in the preamble to length of grid entries.

I was just assuming it was a simple letter swap. I'm still not sure where the reference to letter length fits in!

Unclued, I'm far from being finished and won't get another chance until tomorrow evening but some of the clues ( 4 ac and 26 so far) lead to an answer 1 letter longer than the entry.

Thanks caphrist. I haven't heard of this setter but the clues seem relatively straightforward. I'll press on......

Wow really struggling here. Half filled grid? But lots of clashes that do not seem to resolve. confused how to make some answers fit. Help on say 1across and 11across would be useful.

1a. the chemical symbol for uranium inside a three-letter word word for colloidal suspension. Element is the definition.

Would love a hint on 21a, please.

Simon - 1ac is U inside a three letter word for a colloid. 11ac is R removed from EX..R..ION. Can anyone help me with 4 or 5 down? Also why is 21ac quarter?
