Orson- there is no 7ac. I thought you meant 17.

Sorry, unclued, I did mean 17. My answer begins with T and ends with S. It doesn't matter but I did waste time looking for two words. Maybe I've got a funny edition.

Just realized you must be right, unclued. Dresses as a verb rather than a noun. Thanks.

Reynard, I only have 28 double letter cells, not including the central column, are there definitely 30?

From the last few down clue pairs, I have two sets of three words (7, 4, 5 and 7, 2, 5 where the two seven-letter words are the same). From the first few across clues, I have a seven letter word (possibly followed by a conjunction) and a six-letter (or possibly a hyphenated nine-letter) word. However, making sense of the middle pairs is proving very tough, and although I see how the words either side could form part of coincidences, I can’t see how the middle pairs would mesh with them. What level of accuracy is required – is one part in 60 enough or do we have to go to the next level (in which case we don’t seem to have enough letters)? I sense that I’m not far off, and I should be most grateful for confirmation that I’m on the right lines and, if so, a nudge to help me complete.

Carpox - googling the theme helps enormously. Remember that the pairs make EXACT times.

Thanks, unclued. Do we work to the nearest second, then, or are fractions (somehow) used? Since I believe I have the numbers (in no particular order - as they say): 3, 8, 16, and 20 or 21, but it's that unravelling of the middle pairs that remains stubbornly elusive, even after googling.
