Simonsays,
5 parses as R(ight) then a short word for frost in two Arizonas. Any hints on 17 or 18?

Unclued - your ignorance of the setter is surprising seeing that he has at least 60 Listener puzzles to his name. They are almost all very difficult and noted for terse, brilliant, though obscure cluing. I haven't even started this one yet but indications are that it will be exceedingly difficult.

Escuan - I've only been solving the Listener for a few months and I would assume that the hard part of this one is going to be the end game as the clues have generally proved easier to solve than say the recent puzzle by Radix.

Unclued - point taken; I've been doing the damned things for 40 years, and am finding them more and more difficult!

I've now solved the anagram for 4ac, but the rationale for the grid entry eludes me. I suppose all will become clear as (if) I progress further?

Only stuck now on 12a,16a,17a20a25a,36a,9d and29d. I think with number of clashes this is a grossly under checked puzzle. Any help greatly appreciated

simonsays - according to me 17ac is another one that is one letter longer than the grid entry. I still haven't sussed how to enter these in the grid
