Not much activity so far today, so how about a discussion on 'halt' versus 'wait' for the answer to 1D - in the Guardian Quick crossword?
delay (5)
? A ?T
The official answer is 'wait' but either word would apparently fit - both as a verb or as a noun - according to my Thesaurus
How can you tellIi'm bored? (husband's fallen asleep - so has the dog! - and the Athletics are over till teatime!)

The cricket's on, though, elle.

"HALT" to me implies more of a permanent than a temporary cessation, so doesn't fit "delay" as well?

According to Chambers (!) the definition of 'halt' is a 'temporary stop'!!!!

I don't like Cricket, Chris!

Hi elle
I was thinking of the "halting problem" in computer science, as addressed by Alan Turing - see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halting_problem
"Halt" in this sense definitely means "stops forever".

HI, Rusty!
I've put 'halt' but did debate about it first!
Not really bothered either way, just got a bit bored waiting for everyone (ie husband, dog, one of the two cats) to stop 'napping'! Dog awake now, so going to rouse my husband to come out for a walk!
