Original clue answers go into new grid, so forget about initial clashes and look for the 6 clashes which arise now.

But that's what I mean : LION and TOOK were a clash in the old grid but LOON and TOOK are not a clash in the new grid. In the new grid we have 4 new clashes and one old clash but where is the sixth one?

You need to move clue answers, not grid entries, to the new grid. LOON is not a clue answer - LION is.

The original answers to the clues go into the revised grid, ie LION and TOOK. Then you get the clash, discard the I and LOON appears.

OK, I'll accept Kilgore Trout and Gem94's explanation. Thanks both of you. It's just a shame there couldn't have been six new clashes in the new grid. Very difficult though, I suppose.
