unclued - now you've got me worried. I have those two words after adjustment, and no discarded 's'. I was convinced I'd got it right, but have alingering doubt about the Word.

unclued - I followed the hints already given and finally got there. The 'i' does come from lion/took, surely. After 25 years of solving the Listener this has to be one of the most devious.

unclued - you were quicker than me to spot the clash in lion, I only got it in the completed grid. I don't have the same clashes that Ollie describes, they are in the same words but different letters - I couldn't presume to say who is correct.

planks - you are right, I've since realised my mistake and the words I indicated were wrong. Took an awful long time to 'click'. I was intent on keeping 'riddle' as the Word, from the first-time clashes, even though it wasn't a synonym - presumably that was the setter's intent!

I'm really worried now! I am pretty sure I have now got all the clues sorted, and the message, and the synonym...but having huge doubts about the final grid fill...devious indeed...where do the 's' and 'e' of strife come from if not from ravised and avene?

What is meant by "another problem with the clues" and the correct form of the puzzle? I thought that I had that! Still not sure what's going on here.
