My big fat Homet fingers, meant Phenomenon. It's an expression you either know or don't. Even when solving it cryptically you'd have to look it up for confirmation if you haven't seen or heard it before.

Hi again Polly Dee, glad if I can help so I'll look in tomorrow. You hopefully will wake up full of inspiration if you don't solve it beforehand.

Hi ginge ! No luck I'm afraid - I'm still completely flummoxed !! Presumably the second word is plural, in which case I have no idea. I have been through several weather based web-sites to no avail.!! Could you give me the initial letter of each word.? Or is that asking too much? Are you doing this quiz or are you being extremely knowledgeable and helpful ? :-) P

No, the second word isn't a plural. Think of a well-known senator Bob ????. The first initial is one of the red suits in a pack of cards so you need to change it for the other suit (initial only).
For the first word, it's quite straightforward - think of an American word for a season (I think there is only one that differs from our words) plus a word meaning to go nude in public. You will probably not have heard of the answer, so google it.

Hi again Polly Dee, sorry I missed your first post today but I imagine after Lady Bee's post you'll solve it and you'll hopefully see the relevance of my clues for the 2nd word without me trying to give too much away.
I think this clue is superb and would be worthy of inclusion in any quality cryptic, my compliments to the setter.
