no - I think what you have for tax is the next word in the chain i.e. the word for "ring"

No, I have that one and the following 3 (started with 'Jethro'). Have obviously gone wrong before 'ring' - and invented a woodlouse which sounds quite appealing but obv. doesn't exist!

What I can't do is get from 'ring' to 'head' - I thought I had, by changing to first letter to give Maggie's tax, but it cant be right because it would go to ??B? and that word can't.

the synonym for head ???? does not have a B in it - the B only comes into it when you enter 11a in the crossword.
I think you have the synonym for ring its 1st letter was changed from head synonym.

Well i've probably confused you by now - ask me another!
