Hi jono
If "cooked" is the anagram indicator, what does "with lids down" contribute? An the spelling is wrong for the clay oven.

Feeling rather dim-witted today, finished completing the grid in respectable time but despite there only being one possible answer I can see for 7,8 I cannot see how it parses (assuming def is last word). Is it possible to give me a hint without spoilers please?

Lids down means move the first letters of the next two words to the ends of those words (down in a down clue).
I take your point on the oven.

Just solve, think of some combination of chemistry and roman numerals.

Thanks jono. I wonder if it's an attempted &lit, so "cooked" is part of the definition as well?

Obviously also dimwitted this morning, even after the hint I still can't parse 7/8! Otherwise a very fast completion for me.

Hi neville
Difficult to give a hint without spoiling. Look carefully at "five".

As above think chemical symbols and roman numbers.

13d is &lit; the entire clue is also the definition (look up the answer as an adjective in Chambers).
