For some strange reason I found this rather easier than most recent puzzles, but I just can't manage to parse12 down, which nobody else seems to have had trouble with: pretty sure I know what the answer is (not many words fit) but just can't understand why...
Can anyone help?

tempura - the wordplay is 3+3 - a TV double act, usually presented in the opposite order to that used in this clue.

otempora - sorry for mangling your name - I should check to see what 'autocorrect' does!

Thanks for your help, JBird54. The only trouble is that I'm a complete idiot: the clue I can't unpick is not 12d - which in fact is the very first one I solved - but 2 down. Any hints gratefully received.

Otempora - The answer to 2d is an anagram of what you're left with if you add "threes" and "unity" then subtract "they".

Could someone give me a hint for 24 across. Thanks.

Thanks. Foolishly, I didn't think the definition would be the whole clue, so made it harder for myself than it should have been.

All done. Strictly speaking, the English transliteration of the title should be 6 letters. A minor quibble.

Two hours in on Friday evening I thought I was going to finish in record time for me. Theme words, clue types, name all identified, clashing cells located and resolved and just half-a-dozen clues to complete which I thought would be a matter of minutes. Wasn’t able to look at it yesterday, but I think it’s taken me another three hours to finish off.

Still a couple of definitions that puzzle me, although I’m sure I must have them right:

7d - Definition in clue points to a person. Wordplay seems to lead to something that person might use rather than the person

18d - I’d be more comfortable with my answer if the definition included the word ‘unaffected’ rather than ‘affected’.

And given the precise words used to identify the theme, I’d have thought ‘You must have one or the other’ would be a technically more accurate title than ‘you can’t have them both’!

But small quibbles. Generally very enjoyable and challenging to finish off.
