Fihished, unusually early, while lunching in the sun at the pub.

But I can't parse 7d: I have a solution which fits 4 crossers and takes the first 2 words as definition, and can explain one letter, but can make no sense of the rest. Hints?

FoI: 5d
LOI: 7d
CoD: the clever 17d

I think…
3 letters back (as in the expression ‘to and…’) then 1 letter top of littlun inside 3 letters purchase

I thought that must be it, but it's a terrible clue. "Back" loose, "purchase" loose, and "little'un" giving a letter is verging on ridiculous!

...and the surface doesn't make sense. "Jackets" is just about the only valid part.

24 is funny. I'd expect Paul to clue it in a more risqué manner, but I prefer the wordplay chosen.

Been out today for birthday lunch with our daughter (hers not mine), so started very late (6.00pm) and still at the struggling stage.

I don't understand 17d. Are my crossers right i?o???? I should have asked my daughter, who is good on films.

Despite living in Devon (a big county), I can't think of the town. So far I've come up with Honiton and Exmouth. I must look at a map.

I found 6d wasn't a word I was familiar with nor the word in the clue.

I'll have another go with the benefit of hints from the thread. I may or may not be back depending on progress.

Hi roof
Yes, your crossers are right. Split the first word in the clue!
One of your Devon towns is correct, though the parsing isn't obvious.

Yes, geeker, I was surprised by the non-risqué clue for 24, and I have a suspicion that Paul or someone else must have clued it in the risqué way before.
