Enjoyed this very much, but two queries. Why the second half of 1d clue? The first three words work as a sort of &lit, but don’t see how concealing the rest of it fits in. And can’t quite parse 18d. First and last letters are the article (I think) and I see the usual letter for student. What about the rest of it?

1d is &lit, I think.

I don't think you have the parsing of 18d right. The whole thing is "up"; the article is the 4th and 2nd letter. The student is included, and the 3 letters are inside most of a university course (still upwards).

Nope. First word is anagram indicator (as well as part of the defn), and anagram is of 2nd and 3rd words but modified according to the last part.

Many thanks re 18, Chris. I see that now. Still none the wiser re 1. The second and third words of the clue seem to account for all the letters of the answer, so why the extra modification?

Unless (just googled the answer) it is a cryptic allusion to burying treasure at the end (ultimately) of a natural phenomenon, in which practice the answer is said to have indulged?

Nope again. Check the spelling of your solution carefully. The anagram words contain two of one letter and one of another - these need to be exchanged.

Ah, gotcha. I’d simply spelt the answer wrong. Many thanks!

Hi all. One left to fill, pretty sure I have the answer but I can’t justify it. 12ac. I assume definition is the last three words, and there’s a 3 letter word for ‘feel bad’ from 2nd position. Can someone explain what’s going on here?

3d and 25a were gems. Like many others I struggled to understand 23d, thanks for the explanations.
