Greg, you need an alternative spelling of something referenced in the definitions of the last word in the clue

Would love to finish this!
Printed out a larger grid today to write in options....anyone else do that!?
I can't see 28a or 20d sadly.
Normal clues so I'll give them.
28 Manifesto on shipping includes decks. (8)
20 Give reduced set out to fill with ashes. (8)
Can't give letters as they are jumbled.
Smidgers has given lots of lovely unusually structured clues and I thought I was the wavelength, but these two have me stuck.

28 is hidden in the clue
20 the clue could possibly do with eg "perhaps" at the end, as the definition (last 4 words) is using an example.

Whoop... Got this. And didn't find out what 19a was until all in! Cool puzzle.

@lumen i found writing out a large grid and filling in the possibilities very helpful even without a few clues solved. The four letter words that dont cross over 2 gridlets help most... Letters O N and E also being singles.

Me too... took a few goes at the sudoku to get it right. Just making wrong assumptions because my entries didn't change. Was beginning to think I had an error...
