Required a bit of googling for the unfamiliar theme. Is Odo new? Used to have a cat with that name. Not certain I have all the letter chsnges right.

Odo debuted last Oct with PARTNERS IN CRIME theme.

I don't have 7d, 20a and 20d.

Middle letters of across make sense, but those of down seems gibberish. So, no idea of theme yet.

7d. Defn first two words

20a. Defn 1st and 3rd words

20d. Defn 2nd, 3rd and 4th words.

Write out the letters that you have for the downs, and think romantically (pun)

Didn't work out the wordplay - 7d and 20a I should have seen. 20d is new to me.

I think i got the theme, 4d, 16d.

Now to change letters.

That is 19d.

I've got the theme (and an ear-worm), but haven't a Scooby about how to apply the letter changes. Are we trying to enter six new words (or names/or both)?
