Think I broadly understand what’s going on, having shaded 47 cells - very well constructed!

No idea what the title means, nor its repetition in the preamble

I have three unclued entries, but googling the theme word has not led me to any suggestions for the other three

And what on earth is the Charybdis clue on about? I have a possible answer, but cannot make head not tail of it

Any hints gratefully received!

Hi Adeano,

I think it's just a repetition/'twice' of how Charybidis would refer to himself/herself, hence "said", with the definition being "order on board is accepted".

I did initially think there might be more to it regarding an abbr. for "accepted" but that would mean the following 2 letters (again repeated) could mean "thus", but I can't find any justification in Chambers for this.

My word, the number of times I have forgotten to check who the setter is when presented with a name!

I’ll learn the lesson eventually I’m sure

Thanks Brendan

Combine the title and the theme and you have a theatrical phrase, cf Sondheim.
The unclued entries are all types of the theme word.

Ha, of course! Thanks mack

Although it looks to me like we’d only send in one. Unless you count the unclued entries I suppose.

Are the unclued entries obvious? I have two which I think are, and one which was somewhere at the back of my mind, but can’t find anything for the others

One is the name of the most famous one. One down entry is French and the other is often spelt as a French name. One across entry, which I didn't know, is Spanish. The other two across entries are types, but also words in common usage.
