Thanks to Kite for a timely themed puzzle.

I found it quite tricky in places but, thankfully, there are some long anagrams plus the odd hidden to help you get going.

There are still 3 I haven't been able to parse, even though I am confident of my answers...

9a -‘ Old flower’, term for bargain hunter (5)

25a - It’s fine, so they say now, very thin, evenly-divided dress (9)

28a - Check score of 1 in game (4,3)

FOI the 10a and 4d crossers.

COD: Quite liked 4d and 12a so will call it a tie.

Stay safe:-)

Thanks to Kite.
Saw the theme early.
Tricky puzzle, never felt I was on the wavelength, even feared DNF for a while, but it wound up a fairly typical Prize.
FOI 3, LOI 20.
Some solutions were clear from wordplay but required Google confirmation.
Many nice clues but no blockbuster COD.
Let's say 15 is COD. Long list includes 9, 7, 2, 15, 12, 16, 1a and 14.

Thanks Geeker,

I got caught out by "term for bargain" - pretty sure it's not the first time I've missed the intended meaning of "term"!

I thought 9 had clever misdirection. High on my COD candidate list.

Okay, just seen the wordplay for 25a, so that just leaves 28a unparse.

I was actually quite surprised to see that Chambers does give one definition of 1a as "magician".

I'd assumed Kite was being more general, but no...

Okay, I see 28a now - not my favourite bit of cluing but that might be sour grapes because I took so long to unpack it!

I think 1a is also clever. I don't have Chambers, but (maybe fancifully) deduced a pun or hidden definition involving three Biblical chaps. 😉
