The editor (along with the rest of us) must have been hoping all went well. It could have been a tragedy.

I've made a start and filled in the NE, but not seeing much else. To be honest, I'm a bit irritated. I don't like theme, and the clue for 5a is missing an indicator.
I'm out for the day, so I don't think I'll bother finishing.

I think the intention in 5a is that “ ‘s “ should be read as “has”.

Winning cluesin last weekend’s WPR rather better! (spoiler if you go there).

All done except for 26a .... I think my crossers are OK (O, V, S) but TBH there's a lot in this puzzle I can't parse and I can't find a word that fits with my crossers! Any help appreciated.

I don't know if I was just particularly slow on the uptake but I have just realised that as well as the obvious theme there are 4 solutions which are incredibly specific.

A fine achievement by Kite IMO.

And congratulations to them for their fine achievement!

Great puzzle I thought.

Hi Neville, your crossers are correct, it’s an alternative spelling (Chambers says rare) for a word for idiots. Wordplay is a cockney word for heads minus its first letter.

Exactly so JustSolve, I didn’t see that until the end either. Also the organisation they work for slipped my attention.
