Apologies for being a little off topic but congratulations to Dice for making today's Guardian Quick Cryptic a pangram

Gentle but lots of fun! COD 5D. Looking back over the week, I found Brummie’s offering on Thursday particularly entertaining.

A tad puzzled by a couple of parsings, help appreciated...

20a - I assume the first 3 letters are from "captive enemy" but how do we get the last 2?

29d - I get the "back garden" but e why " where to hang sheets"? I did wonder if the definition might be just "garden" and that "back" could be a reversal indicator but, having looked up the answer in reverse, that doesn't seem likely.

Brendan, isn't it something to do with sailing?
BTW I am completely stuck on 13a (and hence 13d) if anyone can help, please?

Hi Bren,
20. Captive gives the first 3 then it’s enemy’s leader and right each yielding 1, and moved to the front.

29. I thought this might be a double def. sailing reference. But I stand to be corrected.

Hi Brendan

With 20a I think that the two last letters are the first letter in two of the words within the clue

With 29a I probably have the same answer as you, I’m at a loss as it doesn’t appear very cryptic

Hi Neville, I did consider that but isn't there an "arm" after it?

13a - 3 letter "boatman" not the setter, inside 4 letter "base" - definition is "watch" as in 'look at'.

13d - parses as 1,2,2 with the definition being "glorious"

The “arm” is the bit on the end. I’m more convinced by the sailing interpretation now.
