Dylan, my answer for 20ac is the truncated name of a [first two words of clue]. This is one of the examples where I see no misprint. I hope I am keeping the right side of forum guidelines here.

Thanks quisling! I finally managed to fit the shape in the grid after flipping and rotating it. For some reason I was fixated on a different edge being on the top border!

Like riversk my diagonal in cell 1 isn’t precisely corner to corner, but it’s very close and since everything else fits neatly, I think I probably have the right solution.

If anyone has a cell 1 diagonal precisely corner to corner though, let me know and I’ll go back to the drawing board!

That's why the unusual grid size, I realised.

Lostinwords, when the preamble refers to the diagonal from cell 1, I think it should be interpreted as the grid diagonal, rather than the cell diagonal. Then it all works perfectly. Glad you got there

The end game has me baffled. I have decode the perimeter answers and have seven new words. The top row and the final column are related, but the first column and bottom row are confusing me. As to the shape to be drawn, there seems to be many alternatives of it, none of which appear blindingly obvious to me.

Without being too obvious, I'm guessing that I need to highlight a vowel, and if I do, I know where it is.
