What you've described gets you to 24, I think. After the dream, there's something that was raised (seen in the bottom row in "unraised" form), and a 3-letter something was put on top of it. Not all of this is in a straight line.

Many thanks buddy. I naively assumed that they would all be straight lines, and signally failed to appreciate what “appropriately placed” meant. Mea culpa

That was the only way that I could find 32 cells but I was not really happy that the 3-letter word was "supported". I still have a niggling feeling that Ifor intended a more satisfying solution.

I'm on a run of falling at the last fence this weekend. Simply can't make sense of the critical clue which (may) push me forward. Looks like a simple anagram but nothing useful pops out apart from an author.

Bobbycollins, it is an anagram leading to a former rock band, which with the clue number will point you to the source of the theme.

Bc, don’t do what I did and assume that left is L. It’s “left in eroded”, E

Hello all and a happy Nee Year to all!
I have somehow contrived to leave my weekend i on the sleeper train back from Penzance! Horror of horrors as I was only seven or eight clues in… is there any way anyone can send me a pic of the unfilled grid and clues which I can then print out again?
I would be much obliged… I’d ironically bought two copies (one for my mum), who has since filled hers in!
Many thanks in advance
Natty

Norah, I'll let you know when it's been sent.
