Filled the grid, got chaps going up and down, the place and the supporting features, but that leaves me 6 short.

Jockie, if you look on one of the diagonals you will find something useful, though it won’t solve your whole problem

Thank you Malone. I had thought of that but was looking for a Latin phrase. Silly me.

Jogamel, thanks - I felt you were looking at it the wrong way round, and later realised I should have actually mentioned the definition itself!

I’m a day late I know but retuning to this this sunny morning I see I have one unsolved clue - poodle lay mostly without hair to its head. Is anyone still out there? 6 letters I think.

I have full grid and know the theme from the extra clue.
But I only have the location. Six letters. Cannot get anything else!
Can someone give me an oblique steer?

Btw. It is a poodle. But a rare hybrid one. French.

Out of interest, can I ask what people are choosing to highlight? I have a horizontal 6, a diagonal 10, two vertical 5s intersecting it and a couple of other possible 5s, but 32 is an elusive total. I’m presumably being dense.
