After the trials and tribulations of yesterday's Prize from Vlad, it was a pleasant surprise to get an Everyman that is much easier than we've been having of late.

There's a rhyming pair, hiddens and homophones.

I did wonder if 18d, 23a, 21a and 20a might be a theme but, on reflection, I think not.

I still haven't parsed 5a, where I have an answer meaning "reluctant" but can't really see how it can also mean "announcement of just one summary". I know it can be split 1,5 but that doesn't really get me any further?

Anyway, thanks to Everyman for a more pre-Observer type offering.

Let us know how you got on. Did you find it easier than the last few weeks or was I just on the setter's wavelength?

Stay safe:-)

Brendan, I can't access the puzzle yet.
I've been using the website

https://observer.co.uk/topics/everyman

And that only goes through 1 Nov.

IGeeker, if that doesn't work then just click on Puzzles, Everyman and then click the magnifying glass at the top RHS of the page and just type in Everyman 4125.

Failing that, you can click on any of the Everyman puzzles, then look about 3 inches below the puzzle on the LHS and you'll see 'Puzzles Everyman'.

If you click on Everyman you get the latest one.

I don't know why they make it so difficult!!

No Problem.

Any thoughts on my 5a query?

Brendan, I'm inclined to agree with on 5a.
My solution has a clear (1, 5) parsing, but the 5 isn't a word I associate with "summary".

But I don't have/use Chambers...odds are it contains a definition of said word which justifies the clue. [That's what usually happens when I pan a clue ;-) ]

I don't see anything in Chambers that justifies "summary." Odd clunker for an otherwise nice puzzle.
