I was also puzzled by 5a.,as "announcement" could indicate a homophone, but would be redundant with the (1,5) parsing.
I did like 5d., however.

Like Geeker, I had more trouble finding the puzzle than solving it. None of my links led me to today’s puzzle. When I found it I had trouble correcting some typos and lost the completed puzzle. Had to start again with with with with with with a new search ( the number worked better than the date) and complete the puzzle again in a seemingly express time! I agree with the 5a quibble

Good day all.

I am in tune with all of you.

Could not find puzzle, suggested links did not work, now cannot remember which one did.

Lots of the usual suspects, agree on 5a. Also liked 5d.

Have not yet got 10d - I have -L-T always find the four letter clues the trickiest.

Overall easier than recent Observer era offerings, almost a write in for me. Enjoyable, especially the rhyming pair which of course are not only rhyming but are consequential?

Enjoyed it today, but yes, 5A is confusing. Is "summary" a reference to a three word phrase meaning "the opposite of a summary, all the details" perhaps?

Yevrah, I always get stumped by the short clues too. In this case, 15d. I’ve got the others but some queries:
2d : why the capital letter for Rose?
16d : why twinkling?
COD: 14a raised a smile.
I didn’t finish last week’s but it seems the answers aren’t yet available.

Hi nicoladawn
Twinkling as in ‘of an eye’
Do you mean 5d and Rosebud? If so, the capital letter is just for the surface, as it refers to Citizen Kane.

Ingenious, actonhighstreet! And you might be right, but (and this is no criticism of you) I still don’t think it quite works, and it doesn’t explain ‘announcement’. But I can’t think of a better explanation!
