I have a theory re 5a. I think that the setter had second thoughts about the answer and changed it but forgot to change the definition (or vice versa). "Ageist" would satisfy "announcement of just one summary" but I assume most folk - including me - put the answer which satisfies "reluctant".

That's a better theory than mine!

We had a correction last Sunday (a missing S in some fodder), I suspect we may see another one later today.

Almost there - but this is the third time I’ve lost all the answers and had to enter them all again. Has anyone any idea why this is happening?

Nicoladawn was asking about 15d which held me up as well and was m'y LOI. It parses as 2, 2 and definition is staunch as a verb. Quite a nice clue.

Sealionsteve - that's my conclusion too: the setter caught himself between 2 stools.

However, can someone please explain 18d, I have an answer that is a hidden, but I don’t understand the rest of the clue? It’s probably one of those obvious ones, but no PDM yet!

The answer to 23 is the definition (by example) for 18.

Enjoyable, and a vast improvement on last week. Plus, I learned a new word for drunk!
