Apparently the expression “chopped liver” is much more common in the US. It’s often used in the form “What am I, chopped liver?” I believe it originated in the NYC Jewish community.

19d is not an anagram it’s about the ordering of the letters. See Chris@30.
Elder is somewhat irrelevant actually, it could just easily be Younger.
