Hi Nicoladawn

THW = Translantic Head Wrecker (a British Standard!) 😁

Hi Julesverne - I took 'overturned' to be the anagram indicator, and felt 'wanting volume' to be superfluous.

2d and 3d have similar constructions. They both involve anagrams with single letter removal.

I don’t know if anyone else thinks Everyman has jumped several levels of difficulty recently. What was an enjoyable challenge for me has now become overwhelming. It’s the only cryptic crossword that I attempt and thought that it was set at entry level. Does anyone know of an easier cryptic crossword that would be more suitable for me?Many thanks.

Nuoesque,
Sticking with the Guardian, check the “Quick Cryptic” on a Saturday and the “Quiptic” on a Sunday.
Hope that helps.

I think the Quiptic's got a lot trickier since the Observer's secession. I find it almost indistinguishable from Everyman now. In fact, today's was by far the tougher of the two, for me anyway. (Handily, it's got in-built cheats if you need them, though.)

Thank you Jono. I have the Guardian on my phone so will give them a try. Still struggling with 1a, 2d, 6d, 11a, 13a and 15d. Not a great day for me. Any pointers would be really appreciated.

I is never overhead because it doesn't fly.
2 is a subtractive anagram (not my favourite type of clue)
11 takes parts from the words for the numbers
13 is a cryptic definition - not a good clue
15 is a double defintion, in which the two are not pronounced the same
