Don’t kick yourself too hard. I’m still of the view that the tech bit of the clue is loose at best!

Superb puzzle imo. Mostly on the gentle side, but like others I struggled in the SW.
Got off to a flying start with most of the top half done pretty quickly. The long clues 7d, 14a, 17a held me up a while, but once they went in I was left with 18d, 20d, 24a, and 26a — these accounted for over half my solving time, although once 18d went in, the rest followed quickly.
Loads of contenders for COD, I’ll go with 1a.
Thanks to Philistine.

All done now, 16D took a while as I'd gone down a bovine blind alley!

Some nice clues in there, 15D and 9D being a couple of my favourites.

FOI 6A
LOI 18D

rog, I've seen the tech part of 20 in a number of puzzles. I found the other definition loose. Granted I didn't decipher either without long thought.

Finally got 8d but not really happy with the truncated form of the timeless relative. Great puzzle overall though.

Agree with the general consensus that this was on the gentle side, but still very satisfying. 27 was actually FOI for me and was almost a write-in; having worked many years ago in a relevant field, the meaning of "grotesque" in this context was immediately obvious to me. All done apart from 26, which I am struggling to parse (and am trying to avoid reading spoilers for).

Robdales I expect you have 26 by now but if anyone is struggling to parse it, as Brendan did earlier, it is really very simple if you apply 'walls' cryptically.

Great fun! Hard in places but easy in others. 7D was quite beautiful. It took quite a while to figure out the reference to 3.

I really enjoyed this puzzle and for the first time ever I didn't have to look for hints on the forum. I found the top half easier than the bottom.
