Only just started, but I'm a bit irritated by 1d. My first go had a different, equally valid, second word, until14a proved it wrong.

P.S. I haven't looked at the earlier comments in case of spoilers, so someone may already have made this quibble.

All done. Very enjoyable. Thanks Phillistine for some great and very cleanly surfaced clues. Like many before I can't believe 20d was my LOI when I'm sat here with furrowed brow staring at it!

COD I think would have to be 15d or 17a.

Loved 7d. Stuck on 18d (last one!)

I can see what your first thought must have been for 1, but as far as I can see it’s not in the dictionaries, whereas the correct solution is.

Amazing progress while waiting at barber's this morning - but ground to a halt with 5 to go.

Like a few here, struggling with 18D and 20D, and hints welcome.

Think I have 8D, assume definition is "contemporary", but the word I've got doesn't strictly fit as a synonym...

18d is a medical term. I might have queried the definition was this not what Philistine does as a day job!

8d think of “top” as a verb and an instruction
