New setter, Odo, Welcome and thanks.

I think I got the schtick for modification with a couple of down clues.

Have a few across ones, too, with extra letters. I am not sure the extra letters are required...

My progress is slow. Certainly doable.

Experts here will post shortly, that they are done.

Well, interesting, almost done.
In modification madness there is method, that helped.
Got 5d - from 1,15 and crossers.
3 to go in SW.
Will take a break now.

Completed.

Some gaps in parsing - will revisit tomorrow.
The extra letters are needed to get to theme.
I had most of them and I guessed the missing letters, as I already had the theme.

Yes good fun - I also struggled on SW corner. Thanks to Odo - feel some affinity as Odo (The Cat) is another of my noms de plume.

Thanks, Odo; fun and not too taxing. The changes needed in the downs were pretty easy to spot without the message but the clues were excellent, I thought.

One 'mr_rob_t' has claimed that he is the setter, with the message:
