33 down parses as 4 (abbreviated name) + 2 letter theme insertion

Always helpful to give the clue if you can:

Definition is first two words. Word for ask minus Latin abbreviation for take, plus three letters at the end formed by a subtraction

Both 29a and 55d seem to use the same missing 2 letters, which goes against the rules - what am I missing?

The R comes second in the pair of letters in the across clues, and first in the pair in the down clues. But additionally, there are two possible abbreviations for exercise. Make sure you have the right one
