Following on from last week's stellar puzzle this was also a lot of fun.

Several of the clues brought a smile to my face, like the homophone at 10a, the imagery of 11a and the witty 20a to name but a few.

Not too difficult but, if you do get stuck, there are plenty of anagrams plus the odd hidden.

COD: I was tempted to go for the chess clue at 10a but in the end I've picked 1d - I've always enjoyed that saying for some reason.

Thanks to Everyman for a most enjoyable crosssword.

Brendan, nice synopsis.

My COD - 16, if only to cause some head scratching abroad 😁

Thanks to Everyman.

I like 20 as COD. I often struggle with homophone-related clues and took ages to solve the seemingly obvious 10, despite knowing which "grandma" word had to be involved. 🤣

Funny that in addition to the customary long rhyming pair there are a couple of short (though not fully symmetrically located) rhymers.

Geeker, I second your nomination of 20 as COD.

Can anyone explain 14D? There only seems to be one possible answer, but I can't see what it's got to do with perfume, no matter how hard I try to mangle the pronunciation.

In order to smell perfume you would need to breathe it in.

I don't understand 3a, and don't see where the first letter of 10a comes from.

For reasons I can't really explain, I didn't enjoy this week's offering. It happens sometimes, but nothing really stood out as being sharp and witty - it seemed a bit forced. Ah well.
