I thought this was a great puzzle. It’s the first time I’ve not printed it off as I’m not at home. It was a great help that the anagrams were doable without a pen but were sufficiently challenging (for me!). Thank you Everyman

Chrise@9 I don't fully understand 3a but the first word is mafia slang for making someone die? I have no idea where the second word comes from, of how the overall solution relates to any definition I can see in the clue.

The first letter of 10a sounds like an indefinite article when spoken.

Whole clue as cryptic definition. One definition of die is a small cube.

Ahh, the good old fourth definition. Thanks, Chris.
Re 3A: the whole clue is the definition - a 'cold die' would be likely be a particular shape and made out of a particular substance.
PS I agree about 10A - good idea but it doesn't quite work.

Thanks for the "die" explanations.
Still not convinced about the first letter in 10!

Good day everyone. I enjoyed today's puzzle, even the four letter clues were fun.

Liked 10a and 20a, a good rhyming pair and a shorter rhyming duet?

Good anagrams and hiddens.
All in all a nice start to Sunday.

CoD 20a.

No idea what schwa means!

Any else feel a bit annoyed at 19 across, maybe it’s because I am not a geography guy but when that’s no longer what the country or place it’s referencing is called it throws a large spanner in the works.

‘In charge of maize in Cheshire’ would have suited me fine!

A schwa is a nondescript sound. If it were to be written down, the closest would be "uh", but even that is too precise!
