Hi Cynicalmonkey,

I initially thought the same thing but then realised that the answer has also changed it's name but, when it was called the answer, the country was known as Burma so I think it's okay.

But all that is something that you can only realise once you have the answer. Rather than actually being a helpful tool to get to answer. Like I assumed the same logic, it didn’t help the feeling the clue left me with.

I recall Paul clueing ‘Ceylon’ recently; in that clue he used “once” as part of the definition to indicate an out-of-date usage. Something similar may have helped here, but it’s a matter of style.

Just noticed that today’s Everyman and Gemelo share a solution. The Gemelo clue is a little more elegant (imho).

Brendan. Interested in your COD 1d. I never realised it meant that. I took the meaning to be much more literal than that. The phrase was first coined by the late great Gary Schandling apparently. He of the superb Larry Sanders show.

I agree with you, Brendan, entertaining and some good misdirections. I'm one of those who appreciates a slightly easier one now and again. Thanks Everyman.

Definitely Bob, we've had a run of really good puzzles since Everyman's move to the Observer - probably coincidence, but still.

Hi Rocky, I loved The Larry Sanders Show - I used to really enjoy the back and forth between Hank, Larry and Arthur. I binged on a whole season one weekend a while back.
