By Claw.

His last one in Oct 24 was an acrostic with a twist.
Today's looks equally challenging. Just started.

Nothing too complicated, but well worth viewing the source material once the puzzle is complete.

I found it trickier than you, Buddy, partly through putting in a seemingly valid but incorrect answer for 18a.
Still not sure of the parsing for a couple, but I'll have another look at those later. Enjoyed the puzzle.

Looks interesting. Here’s the usual grid for those that find it useful…

Found this quite tough, but got there in the end. Solved all the clues and got the message, but not sure about the conclusion. Is this UK specific?

Yes, good fun, a theme I actually remember. Two left unparsed.

BB, I would say definitely not UK specific. Have you got both parts of the message?

Yes, got the two parts, both from the extra letters and the "limits". Better check out the source, i guess.

Well, I am blown away knowing so many of you have completed the puzzle! I am about half done, and stuck. Waiting for some inspiration.

Not that it would make much difference - is 23a a two word phrase meaning the last word in clue?

well I have it all done and both parts of the theme, but parsing is still beyond me on some: 7, for instance ... and then where does the first letter come from in 28? why are drag queens saying 13? Does "deserted" give the first letter of 20 - (my Chambers is in France!). 9 definition and answer seem to be different parts of speech ... I'll carry on puzzling before submitting so as not to provoke spoilers so early. Very clever crossword and an enjoyable solve, though I didn't know the thematic reference and much of the parsing is rather tortuous ...
