Sorry Jono, (pre-emptively, while I check the timeline). Is it a Mac thing, or does everyone else find
this thread always go from first to last when one is logged out, then vice versa after logging in?

It’s an optional setting. Click on “edit” next to your username, and at the bottom of the page you can toggle between “order forum posts by oldest first” and “order forum posts by newest first” to suit your preference.

I've worked out the theme, seen the limits and filled the grid. However, for the life of me I can't parse 5d. Anyone help please?

The second word of the clue, after modification, translates to a three letter word which when cycled makes the first three letters of the answer.This goes before small.
