got to the end game, found the wiki pages, and thought it was obvious what to do,
but that’s not what the instructions actually say, unless i swap some of the words around. what am i missing ?

I'm struggling with 7 down. Can some kind soul point out to me what seems to be obvious to everyone else, as it's not been mentioned in any other posts?

Will37, 7d. def. is 'prejudice'. 'Pick up' (4) with extra letter, + abbreviation for 'male'.

1esk19 - I was in that position initially as well. You need to check the preamble - there are two instructions and a description.

The second instruction is also a bit confusing. My reading of it is you need a comma after the second word, if that's what's confusing you.

But I maybe wrong as I'm not 100% sure I've got the final step right. I don't see how the full grid complies with the description (or how it ever could tbh).

SH, 19a def. is first 3 words. 'secures', eg a boat, with extra letter, + abb. for 'government', all reversed.
28a. def.is 'to whiten'. Abb. for 'British' + S. American 'plain' (5), with extra letter, around first letter of 'copper'

i thought word 4 was confirming how to complete the 2nd instruction,
but being between words 3 and 5 seem to imply the opposite

1Esk19, your first assumption is correct.
