Like the rest of you, I found this very easy. But I was grateful after some of the recent ones - I only do the Saturday crossword. It was easier than the quick cryptic this week.

My back was hurting and I needed to sit with my heated wheat bag and relax, so it was the perfect solution. Despite the painkillers making me dozy, I still finished in record time. Like Mikey, I found the lack of definition in 7d annoying. I couldn't parse two - 22ac and 20d, though I have now cracked the latter. I did have to look up Benedetti.

FOI 9ac, LOI 20d, CODs 14,19 (I liked the clue, it took me a while to crack it) and 18ac both of which made me smile.

More crosswords like this please for me. Now to undo all the good it did and get the washing in and check the greenhouse. Am I well enough to tackle the ironing?

It sounds like you need a bit more rest Roof, maybe lie back with your cat and chill out for the evening:-)

22a - 3 letter "to fnish" then the 'contents' of (l)eav(e) and (c)ours(e)

Hi Brendan

Thanks for the explanation for 22ac.

I'm about to retire to the sitting room and my settee with some paracetomol and my heated wheat pack again.

I think I did too much over the last fortnight including a trip to Swindon last Sunday for my sister's 79th birthday party and a trip to Killerton (National Trust) on Tuesday to see Twelth night, where I walked too far with my painful hip.

I plan to do a lot less in the coming week. I hope to be more chirpy next week.

I've been to Killerton, roof - one of the few NT houses I've fancied living in!

Apparently there’s a summer jumbo puzzle by Brockwell in today’s Guardian print addition. Not available on line. Has anyone seen it?

Probably record time for us too, and unaided: twice I typed the crossers into CrosswordSolver, but didn't actually use it: for 7d the answer leapt out at me as soon as I saw those crossers horizontally and for 15d, where I already thought I knew first 3 letters, my husband suggested the answer just as I hit the button (it was the only word suggested for those 5 crossers).

FOI: 26a
LoI: 15d
CoD: perhaps 22a, or 16d

We didn't get a copy of a summer puzzle book with our Guardian today, but maybe my husband has hidden it. In any case, I can't do Brockwell, so wouldn't attempt a giant one by him.

Chris, Killerton is only a few miles from where I live on the outskirts of Exeter.

Jono and roof it is quite a flimsy booklet , you could easily miss it , front of paper tells you “Puzzles summer special”.
As well as Brockwell there is a quick cryptic, a US style ,some mini and the most Guardian crossword ever by Alan Conner!!
Plus lots of other puzzles.
