Thank you dmjw1 - I was fixated on 'tub' for bath - spa never occurred to me. I'm still learning cryptic and hadn't heard of 'outbreak' as an anagram hint - I'll add it to the list.

Can someone help with:

I have R _ P _ _ _ in the grid, so I'm assuming this is REPORT and is *yet another* hidden, being 'in the middle of' miniatuRE PORTrait.

But how does BANG = REPORT ?

• 18d "Saffron's source of employment in footwear (8) "
I have _ _ _ C _ S _ S and just *cannot* get 'spices' out of my head. I assume this is E (source of Employment) in a synonym of footwear to get a definition of Saffron?

• I see from previous queries that 19a is Podia, I had P _ D _ _ and don't think I would have got that.


After 5 or so years of doing The Times Quick Cryptic, this is the first time I've attempted a Cyclops and I was amazed how many I managed to fill in. Was this an easy one?

Heyian... The definition for 18 is 'Saffron's source', where saffron comes from. The footwear is Crocs.... hope that's enough for you to finish.

Bang and Report are synonyms, both mean a noise, a loud noise, explosion,Chambers confirms this.

I suspect Macron’s needs an apostrophe in which case how might he say what follows…
