As Jono stated recently, Everyman now has had a bit of a revamp in The Observer.

To begin with, you can now submit your answers online for the prize draw - I know it's always been a prize puzzle bit, up until now, only those who bought the newspaper could enter.

It's also a very simple process: Name and email address - that's it! So hats off to the Observer for that.

In terms of this puzzle, I thought it was a bit more difficult than usual, but donn't be deterred as there are plenty of anagrams along with all the other usual suspects (we'll have to come up with another name for this - it's becoming a bit cliched) to help you get going.

COD: I liked the connected 11a and 7d, although in the latter I think the word "and" in place of the comma would have vastly improved the surface without adversely affecting the wordplay or definition (that's the spirit Bren, tell a professional like Everyman how to do his job - perhaps there are some grannies in need of egg sucking instruction for when you've finished here)

How did you like the new format, and will you all be submitting your entries now? Let us know in the comments.

Stay safe:-)

Bren, I agree, the updates seem to have improved things. Did you get a pop up box with your score/time? I think this may have gone, unless I have made a mistake somewhere, which is no bad thing. As you say submission is now very easy.
Looks like the same applies to Azed.

…the other thing I’ve just noticed is that all my history for completed previous puzzles is now saved.

Hi Jono,

No, I didn't get the pop up box with my time and score, but the timer still runs so you can still record your time and calculate your score - should you be so incline (which I'm not) and, of course, you can always turn the timer off.

Sorry Jono, I meant to add that, with exception of last week's puzzle in which I did see my completed crossword with time and score, in all the others I just get a blank grid covered by the submission box for prize entry ie. name and email address.

Oh no!

I was not aware of this submit option.

Did not know what it was about.

Clicked on it. Somehow submitted it without providing any information and now my 'solution' is frozen and I cannot check and correct answers. Because I am sure a couple are not right (9a for example) and I enjoy the forum for resolving those.

Now am very grumpy.

As for this week's. Agree trickier than recent ones.

So might as well ask for a hints on 9a, 1d and 2d.

Oh, and good morning all.

Hi Yevrah,

If you did the crossword on your phone then you can always redo it on your laptop and re-submit, or vice versa.

Sorry Yevrah, forgot to include hints:-

9a - homophone/'in audition' of a word sounding like "roll out" - definition is "fairytale" as in 'unbelievable' or 'amazing'

1d - it's 'toast' as in 'drink to'

2d - a homophone/'to be heard' of where one might see 'chair o plane' which, I believe, is one of those scary rides like a big dipper etc. - definition is "succeeds'
