20a for me “reduced” is there to imply the abbreviation of words.

For me too, jono. Arguably it’s unnecessary because the abbreviation is an accepted definition in itself and/or it could have done a bit of double duty, removing the need for the ‘half’. Or ‘reduced speed, reduced’ could have worked.

This seemed so stuffed with chestnuts at first, I thought it was going to be a bit of a turkey. But having been alerted to the theme, I can now appreciate its cleverness. Nice one Brummie!

Hi everyone

Slow start as usual. But once again I'm very tired. I've done a lot of the right hand side, but have yet to make an incursion on left hand side. I had no trouble with 20ac. I thought I'd spotted a theme, but it wasn't ghosts. I'm not sure what film came out in the sixties. I'll keep on plugging away. I've no idea about 8d yet. I'm also not sure about 22ac.

Perhaps I could have a hint for 4d. Is the definition Follow.

Roof, hunters don't only chase foxes and kill lions.

Late start to this today and find myself in the same position as Roof- a strong start on the right of the grid and little to show on the left.

Going to be a few more hours before I can really sit down with this one

I must admit that Brummie is another of my least favourite setters. Even when I get the right answer, I often can't see why. I resort to Dan Word to check if it is right; it usually is, though when it is wrong, it means I have cheated!
I struggled to see the theme. Originally, I thought it was Ghosts from something somebody said on the thread. Then I thought it was Gods, but now I think it is either films or musicals, though often just part of the titles or split between answers. But since I hate musicals I can't be sure. Some of the answers are all too obvious, others much too hidden.

My FOI was 7d and my LOI was 8d. My CODs are 7d, 30ac and 25ac.

Those I couldn't parse fully are: 6d, 8d, 19d, 21d (though I think it might just be a double definition), 23d and 24d.

Should I give up trying to do the Saturday cryptic? The Quick cryptic, which I do first, was very easy this week.

Roof - I've only got a few sofar, I always take longer than anyone else it seems . Mind you I think I start later.

But on 19d, it's a three letter anagram followed by a five letter word for "has points", like cutlery.

Late start as I only picked the paper up after lunchtime.

Slow start, a bit of head-scratching but then I spotted the theme, which was a huge help.

One of my fastest solves in the end, reckon I saw it off in about 2 hours!

FOI 9a, LOI 4D

Agree with others' comments on 20A and 31A.

CODs 15A, 25A and 27A. I quite liked 8D and all

Many thanks anyotherbiznez. I spotted the anagram of the first three letters, but hadn't thought of cutlery.

I never start until after lunch and today it was nearly 3.00pm
