Julesvern help please! I cannot understand the second word of 11d, even though I'm pretty confident of the two crossers. I've reached that point where I can't think outside the box anymore, and, shamefully, Ive resorted to quicksolve and still don't get it.

Hi Bob,

11d - there's no real parsing of particular words in the answer. Instead, the whole thing is how one might phrase the question if, in addition to the 2 examples given (York and Orleans), one wanted to know what other examples there might be.

My thanks to Geeker for parsing 20d. I had just biffed it without being able to parse it. Now that I get it, I think it's going to be my COD! I have, of course, also worn them, back in the 70s!

Essjay
Best to give the clues
2d is "groups of rowers", with a sounds like small islands (most frequently seen in crosswords!)
3d is an anagram ("supply")

Thank you Chrise!

I had the first word and thought it was probably an anagram but just couldn’t see it.
